White Clouds and Farewells by SedahLiah
"White Clouds and Farewells" by SedahLiah

Suggester said: This visual poem is a very
lovely and perfect description of traveling; combined
with the picture and the placement of the words
in the image it says a lot in not very many words.

Morphogenesis by nebulasprout

This poem elegantly weaves a future where
love has been supplanted by technology, and the
images the writer manages to convey are evocative
and deeply powerful. Excellent work!

The UrchinThe Urchin
The sticky state of (273) yesterdays
Stings like Portuguese tendrils; my head aches.
Should I open my cracked-mirror mouth,
However much I scream and shout does not suffice,
Does not entice the hoary heads to feel favorably
Or obligated towards me.
I am the reluctant gypsy, the nomad, the urchin
Combing lice-riddled streets.
Begging, "Please sir, just a bite to eat?"
At a time when the end should make me sing,
I preen my wings only to find them fractured
During future attempts at flight . . .
I repackage the plumes and pieces each night,
Recast them in a different light,
But never find them satisfactory
Only starved, brittle, bent, spent, spinning joints, questions as to what was meant
And why the current tense is so laughably different from what was promised.
I am the reluctant gypsy, the nomad, the urchin
Combing lice-riddled streets.
Begging, "Please sir, just a bite to eat?"
I feel old and unwise, multitudes of sighs comprise the tales of my lives

"The Urchin" by YourImaginaryEnd

A strong piece speaking of hardship and an
uncertain future, as well as being thrust into a place
unwanted, this poem describes the emotions
so well it can bring them up in the reader.

Postapocalyptic LunchOn such a beautiful, cool fall day there was no reason for the streets to be abandoned. Children should fill the little courtyard with their games and laughter as cars passed slowly by and the neighborhood went about its daily business. Instead the sole signs of human activity were the flowerbeds full of bright yellow tulips, domesticated plants left over from a time when there were people around to appreciate them. The eyes that fell on them were few and far between now.
The latest set belonged to a dark-skinned girl, her slight frame hidden beneath tattered clothing. She entered the courtyard cautiously, ears constantly pricked for any sound of unwanted company. Zombies may be comically slow, but get a hoard together and they could very well ruin your day.
The girl stopped at a fountain in the middle of the courtyard. It had been left dry and unattended, but surrounded by the yellow flowers it resembled a stone shrine. She withdrew a tiny figurine from her pocket and placed it on the

"Postapocalyptic Lunch" by Leonca

This short story proves that good quality zombie stories
do exist. It is coherent, creating realistic characters and a well
developed storyline. It avoids the cliches of the genre, instead
offering an original take on the classic themes. An excellent
example of refreshing a tired genre to make it new again.

"Beth" by by-loosh

Second person is a difficult voice to pull off without
the dullness of repetition, but by-loosh manages
to create a character that is at once lovable,
hateable, and intriguing with "Beth."
