phoning in by pixieplay

Wow. There's so much about this poem but the one
thing which really sticks out is the emotion. pixieplay's
use of lexical economy leaves the reader exasperated and the
whole tone is regretful, sad and lonely. Beautiful.

Dark MatterV.
I cast horoscopes on your lit constellations
of carcinogens. The red dwarf
end of your cigarette flared at the temperature of fission,
became a supernova before flickering into darkness.
IV.
The harmonic convergence of disaster.
You wouldn't show the new map of your system,
but I imagined the cluster of burning cells,
aberrant nebulae lit up on the black span of your x-rays.
III.
It felt like the moment of takeoff, when the pressure
collapsed you against your seat and sent you spinning
into nausea. Your eyes, fixed only on the full moon
face of the toilet bowl.
II.
You, dark star, the gravity of your swelling belly
catching the chemo crew in your orbit.
I.
Hospice workers like fortune tellers reading off EKGs
as star charts: two weeks, five days, twenty-four hours.

Amidst the vacuum of your room, the echo of your wheezing
pull on the oxygen tank: astronaut torn from the mothership
drifting into the vast dark of space.

"Dark Matter" by RevolutionnaireRouge

Universal metaphors describe the pain and stark
reality of losing a loved one in a slow and horrible
way. The poem traps the reader in the feelings
of loss and uncertainty.

Days in CrayonThe young boy crept forward carefully, eyes shining with anticipation as he crawled through the lush vegetation. His heart beat fast when he reached the edge of the valley, brushing aside one last fern until he had a bird's eye view of the life in the river basin before him. His eyes grew to the size of baseballs as he finally caught sight of the animals that were the very reason for his perilous journey: dinosaurs.
His small hands trembled with delight, and he seated himself on the edge of the cliff overlooking the valley of the dinosaurs. He reached carefully into the front pocket of his denim overalls, and withdrew a pad of paper and an oversized green crayon.
His tongue protruded from the gap where one of his front teeth used to be as he concentrated on immortalizing the sight before him in coloured wax. Several minutes and three crumpled sketches later, the boy laid down his crayon and held up his drawing for inspection. Eyeing it critically, he scrunched up his face before breaki

Ethan's Day in Crayon by NoOtherKing

Simply a wonderful story from concept to execution,
"Ethan's Day in Crayon" strikes just the right note of
nostalgia to ensure the reader leaves with a smile.

Highways by angeljunkie

This concise and remarkable piece of flash fiction
is a wonderful example of character creation. The reader
is left with a strong impression of both people, as well
as a yearning to know where their story goes. angeljunkie
is one of the preciously rare writers that understand the value
of a great hook. Definitely take the time to read his gallery!

Hass by Iscarioz

Not only is this a powerful written piece, but the
designs fit it well and the colors add to the effect of this
poem. Short, strong, and to the point; this is a
piece many may be able to relate to.
