Dead And GoneThey say he's resting peacefully deep beneath the ground
And that for once his eyes are shut and he is sleeping sound.
But I cannot imagine him so quiet and so serene;
As if he would give in to death, so common and so mean.
No, I think his hands are clenched, and he has a furrowed brow,
And he is counting his woes like sheep even now.

Dead And Gone by Echo-of-Echo

I don't know whether to call it
defiance or denial but I love it.

barely even getting therei fell down before i had the chance to come up swinging
and these nights got more colder since the last time i drank
my life away in empty basements with or without any of my friends
and i guess you could say that the world might be ending
and i wouldn't notice either way
it's a wonder that we survived these years rotting away
playing video games and getting high and drinking cheap liquor
hoping to push away the bad dreams and the reality that
always comes knocking at our windows and our doors
hoping, just only hoping that our lives mean something more
and i fell asleep to the sound of you playing guitar
and singing songs i haven't heard in years, it wasn't very hard
to convince myself that my life will end up halfway decent
and as we belt out "it's alright to tell me what you think about me,"
i think we'll get maybe a quarter of the way there
as i sit here at the corner diner, thinking to myself
"will i end up like my dad, will i become a failure?
or will i rise up, against the inevit

If we convince ourselves our
lives will be halfway decent,
will we be content?

I slam {spoken word poetry}I slam
Anyone who thinks that Imams come with bombs,
that little boys learn to die with stars in their eyes
and that a hijab is the most frightening piece of cloth ever woven.
I slam
The notion that you and I are across the world-views,
that the only way to light is through the pews,
that it is not Abrahamic tradition that's proven.
I SLAM!
AGAINST THE WALL! Words within myself that
bring not a heaven but a hell.
I slam the words I want to speak that would only make people weak,
the words that spread disease.
(This is what Jihad means.)
I slam!
Drumsticks against a drum, fingers against the piano, my breath into the flute.
I fiercely destroy a lack of rhythm in my life that prevents me from rise-ing up and above mediocrity.
Do you do that too?
And I slam.
The wooden butt of my protest poster
against the ground in defense of my sisters and my brothers.
I yell out, and--
God willing,
I slam.

I slam {spoken word poetry} by Ribbonwords

The message in this slam poem is immediately
clear and the voice becomes exceedingly flustered
and outspoken without ever being aggressive. The
repetition provides a sense of stability in
the chaos the poem describes.

Theme Prompt - MarketPsst! Hey kid! Yeah, you! Come on over here. You look like you’re jonesing for something. Don’t be shy, step on over here. Yeah, welcome to my black market. I got anything and everything your little heart desires. Anything that’s illegal anywhere, anywhen, anyway, I got it.
Hey, hey wait! Where you going? Hey, kid, come on. Just take a look around. I know you want something and I know I got it. If it’s the legality you’re worried about, just take a breath and calm down. I got legal stuff here too, just hard or impossible to find. Ah, there I sparked your interest, huh? Take a look kid and see what might get rid of that shaking in your hands.
Price? Well that depends on what you’re looking for, of course. Could be anything from 50 bucks to the color of your hair. Maybe your memories before you were three or an object that means a lot to you with memories attached to it. There’s a people I know on this planet that just eats that stuff up. They

Blue Smocking in the True Essence of Time"You have no idea what time is going to do to you."
The girl was certainly no older than me, certainly. In fact, she looked at least ten years younger than me, and her dark blue, smock-like top the drugstore chain made her wear at the register made her look even younger and more childish.
If I allowed myself a moment of superficiality right then, I would have said there was nothing special about her: not her hair style, not her face, not her body, not her smile, not her eyes or even the tone of her voice.  In fact, there was something slightly non-pleasing about all those elements of her, but I couldn't quite put my finger on exactly why.  Maybe everything about her was just a little "off' by the world's standard of what was beautiful and what wasn't.   Regardless of that, though, I realized that at 2:00am, when I was the only customer in the store full of everything a person could need at 2:00am, it was an odd thing for her to say to me as I walked in and passed the che
