Special Edition: Staff Appreciation
We usually don't feature work from our staff, as the point is to feature great work
we find around deviantART. But some of our staff have been here for more than a year,
and all of them are lovely, talented authors. So May 2nd - 5th will feature the finest
pieces from the galleries of our Category and General Admins. If you'd like to suggest
a piece from one of their galleries, please send a note to LiliWrites. Thank you.

Tara is a Prose Admin for us, but she also suggests poetry to our
other admins on a very regular basis. She works for TheWritersMeow
and likes Star Trek and doodling, as her name suggests.
I know she had a piece featured already this month, but as it is
staff appreciation week, I am making an exception to the rule.

Itchy FingersI have itchy fingers
They want to grab that pen
I have itchy fingers
they want to scribble scribble
black lines that wobble and bend
Round eyes that start to blink at me
And weird aliens from afar
Dark horizons as close as I can see
And mutant rodents driving cars
Great dragons spouting orange flame
And fat cats with long fat tails
Giant lizards playing a tug-o-war game
A happy dwarf hammering a nail
I have itchy fingers
but alas, they cannot stay
I need to go to class
and there it's necessary that I pass
so I must make sure that my fingers
are not led astray with that pen and paper
today
or any day
Itchy Fingers by doodlerTM
Sometimes the compulsion to draw can be
quite as distracting as the compulsion to write - and not
as easily passed off as taking notes while in the classroom.

A Discussion of Luck"We sure were lucky back there," Ido said, wiping sweat from his brow. He looked around at his companions – Vaxtra, the former experimental prisoner; Jared, the cyborg; and Dexa, the young lady who had gotten caught up in their adventure. It was dirty in the sewers, but at least they were safe. They sat down at the bottom of the long-abandoned drainage pipe, catching their breath.
"Ah, luck. Define 'luck,' my Japanese friend," Vaxtra replied skeptically. "Is is lucky, then, that we're hiding out in a filthy sewer drain? I'd say we were lucky if we didn't have to be constantly on the run," he added in an exhausted tone.
Dexa laughed. "I'd agree with you there."
Ido glanced over at the teenager. "You joined us voluntarily, remember. We didn't have a choice."
The cyborg boy spoke up. "Technically, there is no scientific proof to prove a conceptual theory such as luck. There h

Strong characterization and an intriguing situation
make this flash piece fun to read and leaves
you wanting to know much more.

Leona is a Prose Admin for us, though she's currently on hiatus.
In addition to her wonderful fiction pieces she is writing a collaborative
fan-fiction graphic novel based in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Though I can't
feature it here, I highly recommend it to any fan of the show.

CloakedZarra grasped the cloak tight around her neck. The air was still and balmy in the diminishing light of the evening, but she felt a chill nonetheless. All the sleepless nights, all the preparations, had led to this one event. No more stalling, no more excuses. After tonight, her world would be changed forever.
She breathed deep in the shadows of the chapel, as if the simple act would calm her. Beside her, Therok appeared bored. Twice her size and tattooed from his neck to his ankles, he carried the air of someone who had done all of this before, despite what the reality was. At'Kel was across the street, invisible in the thick branches of an oak tree. Zarra had asked him why it was necessary to launch his ambush from a tree, but his only reply had been a disturbing laugh. She didn't ask any more questions after that.
As the minutes dragged on into hours, Zarra busied herself with her twinned daggers. She turned them over in her hands, throwin

Strong narrative, detailed action, and a mysterious conflict:
the perfect beginnings to a tale of murder and rebellion.

An Abrupt ChangePenelope smiled as she sighed. Nothing, she decided, was going to spoil the perfect day. It was her anniversary after all, and she was going to make it perfect.
She held the picnic basket in her hand without gripping too tightly. The arthritis in her fingers made it difficult to do much of anything with them. But, instead of damning them again, she thanked God that she had a place to keep her ring.

It was the spring of 1947. Post-war England was a bleak and desolate place, even surrounded by the beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors. The heather was in bloom, turning the hills around Whitby a brilliant shade of purple.
Penny hadn't any petrol rations left, so she decided to walk the moors one spring morning. The fog had barely lifted, and if she didn't know where she was going, she would have lost her way in its thickness.
While she didn't have her petrol rations, she did have her sweet ration. &
An Abrupt Change by Leona629
Rich in detail, this romance set in post-war England is a gentle
reminder that love can come to us unexpectedly, and though the object
of that affection may be lost to us, the connection remains.

Okay, here goes...
Many comments have been made, many people have hauled off and jumped and are now wondering what is really going on, many tears have been cried (at least by me cuz y'all--y'all are mean. Enough said about that, it doesn't matter. I wish everyone all of the best and more.
I would like to take a few minutes to say two things:
1) Many have come through DLD and been better in this literature community for it. Dedication and hard work helped forward their already progressing talent. Not me, not Will, not Lili or any other running administrator--just dedication and hard work. We have present and former hats, badges and most of all the owners of co

Final Words
It is with a hesitant mind and a bloated heart that I write this. DailyLitDeviations (https://www.deviantart.com/dailylitdeviations) was something that was formed out of frustration and anger. I suppose I am not surprised to see it go out that way. A young man named Brandon and I were complaining in a private chat room about how little literature was featured on dA and that we were tired of it. We both wrote several emails to the staff only to be ignored like so many quality artists out there. Eventually we knew that we had to do something or explode from frustration. And so DLD was born. I stayed up for 5 or 7 days straight. My wife hated me and my phone bill went throug
New Information...
It seems that all of you in need of seeing this tradition go on can be satisfied. I would direct you to the account of TheseKrimzonFlames (https://www.deviantart.com/thesekrimzonflames) where you will find links to a new account where his version of DLD will go on in a new and different form.
I am awaiting a journal entry from VertigoArt (https://www.deviantart.com/vertigoart) to post here with his thoughts on our closing of this particular project. It will be posted soonest.
Few know of my own love and time put into this project because few worked night and day alongside me to take care of everything possible from general administration duties to contests, to answering 100s of messages a day and soliciting everywhere p
Everyone, please hold on...
Please be advised that we are in the process of deciding what and how to do with this account by way of moving on--by "we" I mean myself, VertigoArt (https://www.deviantart.com/vertigoart), and various seniors/members that are interested in sticking with something DLD or DLD-like. Everyone's responses are being taken into consideration--even the personal attacks made on me are valued opinions. This account owns a number of points and I am considering doling them out to a group of people who would like to start-up a new group in the same vein. A group of people who are concerned with the work of the literature community and not the kudos that go with serving the community. I ha
