"smoke trapped in jars" by ellipus-ATTACK

For those moments when simile and metaphor
simply aren't enough to capture those daring dreams
of what these paths will lead to.

What Music Is
The lyrics roll off our tongues like poison,
As we scream together, jump together,
Live together.
And tonight, just for one night,
We share one heart.
And it beats with the drums,
And it wails with the guitars,
And it sings in tune.
It knows every word
To every song.
I'm surrounded by sweaty, cigarette-scented teenagers who I've never seen, and may Never see again,
But at this moment, she is my sister and he is my brother.
Goosebumps cover our flesh,
Tears sting our eyes,
Our voices crack but we keep singing along,
Those lyrics that saved our lives.
The lyrics that have pulled us up from dark depths of misery,
The lyrics that made us get out of bed in the morning,
The lyrics that made us want to stop what we're doing and just...
live
We're just kids,
Just kids really,
And all we know for sure is those voices, those guitarists, those drummers,
Create music that makes us feel different, impacts us more boldly,
Than any High-school sweetheart ever could.
It brings chills to our spi

"What Music Is" by SockPanda

The title tells all. This telling of how a certain
genre of music can bring people together through
concerts in an arena, or even a basement. The language
is so pure and true and the tone and mood is perfect.

"A Hero: Enduring" by LadyLincoln

Sometimes you meet someone who changes
your world irrevocably. This prose piece is a wonderful
tribute to just such a person that dA lost recently.
LadyLincoln's words are sincere and heartfelt
and remind us all that just because a body dies
doesn't mean we should let a person's spirit go too.

A Mother's Dispatch
How are things in heaven?  I ask because I have no clue.  Honestly, you were going to be my piece of heaven.  I couldn't wait to hold you and kiss your face.  I thought, How cool will it be to have someone who looks like me, someone who instinctively loves and trusts me? That's the worse part about this whole experience; I woke up this morning expecting to feel your flurried kicks inside me, and I still dream of your birth, even though it's not possible.  I still think about designing your room, shopping for diapers, and planning for our future.
Your daddy wonders if I'm O.K., and I want to say, "Forget about me.  My baby is the one who's not O.K., the one who's not here."  I knew I was all right as soon as the labor ended. My belly is swollen and empty, but I'm O.K...  I'm O.K, but my baby's heart doesn

"A Mother's Dispatch" by MysticFay

This moving piece is an artfully constructed
letter, where the tone chosen makes it extremely
real. Starting in a coherent and calm manner, the
tone becomes increasinly eratic and informal as
the letter continues, heightening the intensity
of an naturally emotional subject. A beautiful
piece of realistic fiction.
