Coin 23you used to like walking
on the railroad tracks
the sun fading at our backs
and endless symmetry
place by place to our front
warm days, the summer
lay heavy as a mistake
your words flickered with the mosquitos
biting at my shoulders
i never had much to say watching
the angular shadows pass
thinking how far
a straight line could take us

Coin 23 by ~PelicanDeath

It's true what they say--a straight line isn't always the fastest way to get somewhere.
But ~PelicanDeath reminds readers with this beautiful piece that taking the shortest
route might mean missing out on some beautiful things.

The Winter Hunti. Ice

In the first evening glow
of twilight
the hard crush of our tired boots
against the roads black-ice
gives off tiny echoes, reverbing as
we move with reverence
in slow steps
towards
the distant hunting cabin,
the chimney smoke
beckons us,
its low white wisps
call us home.

ii.  Evening

Dragging the limp
bloodless deer
towards the smokehouse
the dogs are scouting ahead
their pink tongues panting misty breaths
into the fading light
and above us
a spray of Winters
first milky stars light us,
guide us,
the smell of venison
hits our throats,
wets our mouths.

iii. Moon

A deep-still night of cool air
we sit staring and smoking

"The Winter Hunt" by *brassteeth

The imagery in The Winter Hunt is extremely vivid and accurate,
waving a tapestry of the hunt, fit to be hung in a king's chamber.

Love Letters On the TrainDear Stranger,
I'm leaving this post-it tucked in the side of the train-seat. If you're reading this, you've seen it. I've seen you sit here every few Monday mornings, sometimes tapping a bent, unlit cigarette against your thigh, sipping from your tea (who brings a tea cup onto a train anyway?); sometimes staring at the rain outside, or reading your well-worn, beaten copy of Jane Eyre (I hate that you fold the corners down - it's bibliophilic abuse. I wish the book would papercut you to defend itself a little, but I digress).
You seemed so sad this Monday morning past. Please smile again. I love it when your eyes catch the light of something

Decemberhe laid her life out in polaroid amid the dark blue tendrils of a dying december; it was all he had left after summer had taken the rest.

Telling stories in miniature is no easy task, but in a single sentence,
~Lacewinged-Beauty says everything she needs to.

Stranger on Sandy Neck Beach“Let's give it another go, son.”

Jamie looked as if he was in physical pain; his eyes were almost closed with frustration, and his hands were clasped together behind his head.

“I give up, Dad. Let's just leave it.”

The raft was watertight - Damien knew it, even if his son did not.

“Come on, Jamie. We've worked on this for almost two hours now. Don't give up!”

Jamie fixed his Dad with a stare that looked like it would wilt any plant life unfortunate enough to be caught within his line of angry, brooding sight.

“Dad, we've found what is clearly the most buoyant wood on this beach. We've tied it to

The Stranger on Sandy Neck Beach by ~Ja-mes
A short story that begins in a seemingly ordinary way, but becomes
extraordinary very soon. Good dialogue and a fine twist make it a joy to read.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantART community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you :+fav: the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community and these artists.
