Riot of EmotionsContentment, walking along,
closely followed by her adult son, Misery,
came to realize something.
Being content isn't necessarily a good thing.
It means one never tries to improve,
become better than they already are.
So Contentment became Discontent
and Misery stood just a little taller behind her.
But as she went through life, Discontent met someone special.
Passion.
He showed her the good things in life
and how the bad only made the good stand out more.
Discontent was still discontent, but not in an unhappy way.
So Misery stopped following the couple around
and went off to find someone else to follow
because Misery hates being alone.
Finally, he found someone else to monopolize.
Love.
Love and Misery got along surprisingly well,
because Love dealt with everything Misery threw at her,
standing tall beneath the burden.
And Misery slowly became Content.
Watching over all of them was the grandma

Riot of Emotions by Contradictory55

Suggester: "A refreshing take on the
intricacy that is the human psyche."

supernovae"Wouldn't it be great if we could watch a star explode?"
It was just like her to say that. The violence of another world's ending was, to her, poetic. If our own sun exploded, I think she'd open up her arms to embrace it.
"I don't know that I'd want to be that close," I said.
"That's the cool part. You wouldn't have to be." But she still didn't think we were close enough.
That was how we always ended up like this, sitting in a car, driving to nowhere, with nothing but the sound of the tires on the highway and the company of the stars above us. She couldn't sit still long enough to color in the details, so we never did. We just kept driving.
She leaned back in the passenger seat and kicked her feet up, staring at the ceiling of the car as if it wasn't there.
"When stars exploded a long time ago, they painted pictures of them and wondered if the gods were looking down on them. What do you think we'll do when we get to see one?"
"Take a picture."
She shot an expression at me that I

Supernovae by creativelycliche

A great opening line,
and a poetic slice-of-life scene.

Heartless Automaton - A Love StoryCombat Mechanoid 732 of the 3rd Armoured Battalion - though he went by the name Al in casual conversation (something easy for the fleshies to remember). During service he had dragged his ferrosteel body from the flaming wreckage of a particle tank on four separate occasions, once going back in to recover the memory core from a crushed comrade's skull. He dedicated himself to the cause not because of the propaganda or idealism, but because it was his job (and unlike the fleshies he knew how to do his job without whining, or stopping to rest every couple of days). But now the war was over (with both sides claiming victory) and Al was to be sent into civilian life.
The press releases had been careful not to suggest that mechanoids were considered alive in any way (because that might make someone begin to consider things like their rights and privileges), but instead focussed on how they might benefit the human (fleshie) population. They were told that the mechanoids would offer valuable a

Suggester: "I was very impressed
at how well the author was able to bring
about change in his character over the
course of the story in a way that
was both smooth and subtle."
