incinerate.i want to burn;
i want to feel my skin char and peel
like newspaper on
a barbecue pit.
and my nerves would flicker
as the control panel exploded
in a burst of sugar mint sprays-
like a geyser bursting up from
the ground;
magnificent and terrifying.
i want to burn;
to feel the world all around me
crawling with sweat,
to feel the whisper of smoke
inside of my lungs.
and they say, "from dust to dust,"
but i think it's really ashes.
like a phoenix we are born,
rising up out of poverty and hurt
to soar in the open air like jet planes
and hot air balloons;
and when our souls are tired
and full of soot,
we burn like a firecracker
and back to ashes again.
but everyone knows that
like eternity, the phoenix returns
from the ashes like a miracle
to curse and shout and want too much
and get too little.
i want to burn;
to turn back into ashes and
restart as something new again.
i want to burn;
because maybe then
i'd stop feeling so cold.

"incinerate" by Drastic-Afterthought

The first line says it all; "I want to burn", but
not in the way that is expected. This poem sucks the
reader into the inherent fire pit that is rebirth and it's
difficult not to feel on a similar level with the narrator
after absorbing such powerful imagery.

StorylessToday
I have no stories to tell
except
how golden the sunlight is,
how sweet
the rose bushes smell,
how tall
the mountains, brown in the afternoon
beyond the river.
Ah dove on my roof,
stop singing so sadly,
and let us watch the white clouds together.

As the suggester said, I love the vivid imagery
and the calming mood in this poem. It reminds us all
to stop stressing about everything that's happening in
the world around us, calm down and take a moment to
enjoy the simple beauty of nature instead.

Kori tis NychtasThe constellations screamed
The moon gave birth
Soft midwinter night was
Unburdened
The newborn was Beauty
Wrapped in robes of dragonflies
Hair the color of silver secrets
Threaded with seashell pearls
She dressed in white
For her wedding with the stars
As she stood
Galaxies poured from her eyes
Snow vines blossomed at her feet
And her heart smoked
Setting the earth in spin
She carved from the sky
A crescent bow
Baptized herself the huntress
In a stream of light
And fashioned from fireflies
A single arrow
Then shot it through space
To be heard by Gods
Beneath a cypress tree
She sang to the universe
Something ice pure
But drenched in sadness
And heaven melted into the sea
Divinity drank her lunar toxin
And sweetened her words
Enveloped her in wind
Quickly eating the fatal poetry
Her bright Unspokens
She kissed the forest leaves
And thanked them for shelter
Etched virtues in limestone walls
Anointing the midnight world
River waters froze over
Her perfect skin
Glowing ivory velvet

Kori tis Nychtas by ArcaneAutumn

When writing about mythology an author has to
know how to make their words hold the weight of such
a subject, this poem has done the gods' justice. Not
only is it written as if the poet was there it is clear
and magically beautiful.

"Blue Mutation" by ilyilaice

When the story is over, one might think that
it's strangely categorized in the "Mystery & Suspense"
subject.  However, the whole piece is driven by a sense
of quiet panic of a doctor faced with a strange situation,
one that takes a decidedly melancholy turn at the end.

BlameWe're all looking for that Freudian excuse, aren't we?
It's not my fault I'm the way I am. It's all because of my mother, my father, my little baby sister.
I was bullied and tormented.
I was a bully and tormentor.
Maybe your family didn't have enough money. Maybe they had too much.
Did they push you aside? Were you unloved? Were you beaten? Do you still carry those scars?
You tell yourself, it's because I'm a man. It's because I'm a woman. I'm too fat, too thin, too weak, too strong. Nobody understands, everybody understands. It's their fault they're too ignorant, too smart.
Well, now you have your pick of excuses. Take your pick of the above – they are there just for you.
Except…
You could pick none. You could look at yourself, really look, and work out where things went wrong. What you could change, yourself, right now.
And maybe you'll realise: there is no one left to blame.

"Blame" by Mez10000

This short exerpt highlights a flaw in modern society,
the propensity to blame others for our lives. It makes
interesting use of parallelism to illustrate its point. The
almost poetical use of typography also works to emphasize
the little thought against the normal ideas we are used to hearing.
