BeliefBelief
She tells him the child is not his.
The old women mutter and cluck
as they slap wet cloth against river stones.
He wraps his arms around his chest as though he fears
he will also sprout with child. "A dove,"
he quietly asks? She points to a blood spot
on her cheek. "He pecked me here." It still hurts
when she touches it. It always hurts.
He loves the child, the cuckold's hatchling. He loves his lying wife.
But he knows she lies. When the old men stumble
into the stable, beards matted, coarse as grain,
he simply mutters, "Drunks," bad wine, betrayal.
One afternoon as he saws cedar planks, sawdust thick as pollen,
an angel catches his hatchling as he falls from a branch.
"I shaped the angel out of air," he thinks, so desperate
to believe that a dove pecked his wife, and she swelled with child.

Belief by swansisters

Suggester: "A fascinating look at a
biblical character not mentioned much in
the Bible, but looked at very compassionately here."

Lost in the Marketplace of an Alien WorldThey're all ears and nose,
pouring the colours of their feet
around me.
I can't count their stars
or syllables until
suddenly my mother's hand
takes me back
into my own solar system
and I'm falling in love with oxygen.

"Lost in the Marketplace of an Alien World" by Gay-Mountain

Suggester says: "An imaginative poem
that conveys its message clearly."

SnowThe snow is falling and it looks like the world has been erased. The sky is white, the ground is white, the space between my heart and lungs is white, blank, untouched. I am cocooned in a world of emptiness, cold but comforting. Tangled up in three blankets and a sweater that somehow still smells like you, I watch the sky darken into gray and the outside world slip into the shades of night. It’s not as dark as it usually is, the whiteness of the snow illuminating a world that should be as black as my mind.
And I wonder if you are thinking of me, when I am thinking of you (you must at least sometimes, because you are never far from my mind). I wonder if you miss me like you miss the summer, if you’ve been scooped out and left empty by the whiteness of the snow and the suddenness of our separation. It seems so fitting that it’s snowing, like a fresh start. But perhaps we are only frozen in time, not able to move on until the snow melts to reveal the dead brown grass.

Snow by bangingonkeyboards

Suggester: "The extended metaphor in
this non-fiction piece by bangingonkeyboards
likens the cold of winter snow to the emptiness
grief leaves in its wake."

A beautiful collaboration between a
french poet and a french photographer.
The text, well arranged, perfectly match
with the photo. And gradation-of-despair
(first icon) gives you an english translation
below the french text!
