"Ravishing Swig" by silikon90

A short poem that begins with familiar concrete
imagery and manages to maintain the connection
with the audience while slowly descending into
more surrealistic, though still vivid imagery.

Gunslinging
"Good,"
says the author at our building door,
"that there are no fires in Brooklyn."
But he is blind at 8:00,
and too easily persuaded by the dole of feminists
        skinned by gabbling coins,
as good a donation  as a hunger artist could hope for.
His only subjects of choice are
dopamine
        and the sexual affections of male ballet dancers;
but he has never broached them in the same conversation.
This is why. This is why,
when we hear him talking about fire,
we are all thrown from the memory
of our standard/gather-round/assumed positions,
and why we all
        flutter
to find vacant plots on the cement around him,
and whip out our lighters and dear cigarettes:
agile, self-mangling gunslingers,
we have been prepared for this pleasant novelty
                                                                —all day.

"Gunslinging" by avante

This is the first piece of writing that
I ever favorited. sadly, she hasn't submitted
anything new in years, but don't let that stop
you from checking out the pieces she put up
before calling it quits with DA.

Moon DustI tapped my fingers on my computer desk, looking outside of my window and out to the ocean. My eyes unfocused and I felt the waves crashing over me, crashing on top of me, pulsing through me.
Shaking the daydream from my head, I turned to look over my shoulder to ensure that my parents wouldn’t see me. I looked forward again out the window, my eyes cutting through the dark and through the trees, through the ocean wind, moving against the tall, swaying grasses that gently danced with the breeze.
I picked my phone up from off the desk and dialed your number, hearing the nostalgic sound of the song that the keys made. I felt like a virtuoso laying her hands on the smooth ivory of a grand piano for the first time in years.
The phone barely rang once before you answered.
“Jane,” you answered as if you were expecting me, even though it had been six months since we’d last talked.

"Moon Dust" by RedEarthofTerra

This softly woven story of love, under
the gaze of the moon, makes a beautiful
piece of reading with lovely use of description.

"SDA Casefiles: Rapunzel..." by PandaCat-Productions

This comical piece subtly uses aspects of
metafiction to create a humorous tone, which is
maintained throughout the piece. Abusing every
cliche in the book, it is a great example of the
writer poking fun at their own story.

"Misfit" by boomerlover11

Being a misfit is to be looked down upon others,
but even if you are a misfit, someone in the world
loves you.
