As a new edition to DailyLitDeviations we will be doing a series of interviews with some of the people who wear symbols such as `^$ here on deviantART. If you would like to see someone featured here contact VertigoArt by note and let him know.

This series will take place on the last Sunday of the month. This month we take a look at:

neurotype-on-discord is a Community Volunteer for the Literature Community.

VertigoArt: Thank you for allowing me to take up a little bit of your time and interview you so we can get to know a bit more about you. First can you tell me about you, personally? Tell me something that no one else knows.

neurotype-on-discord: That no one else knows? Oh man that is a long list. I mean, I've done so many dumb things...I know a couple of people who may have figured this out, but if you get me up to like four drinks (just past tipsy) I get really excited about pointless intellectual debate. Or discussions about postmodern photography.

VertigoArt: When did you join deviantART and why did you do so? What category of art was your primary focus when you joined and has that changed?

neurotype-on-discord: Bahahaha that was a long time ago, and it was for the worst reasons ever. My friend was like 'HEY YO ART SITE' and I was like 'OKAY I'M ALMOST 15 AND BORED' and then we spent a couple of years going through art and coming up with terrible descriptions for it (she was trying to knock down her massive favorites folder—that's right, there was only one) and also I posted some shitty emoticons, shitty writing, and shitty Photoshop experiments. Which is strange, because I joined the site to post drawings.

I'd like to say that the big change is an overall drop in shittiness, but give it another year or two and I'm sure I'll think otherwise. But hey, that's part of growth.

VertigoArt: As an admin what do you see as your primary duty and why? What made you volunteer in the first place?

neurotype-on-discord: Cake domination. This is just part one in my step to—oh, inknalcohol, hi! Our alliance is still on!

Okay, okay. It's to be a liaison between the community and the staff, by which I really mean the people who use the site and then the framework of the site. So getting information to users who have no idea how stuff works (seriously, I'm still not staff, guuuuys) and also relaying good ideas users have up the food chain. Or pushing them to make those suggestions themselves, because I'm not a funnel. Cough, cough. You know who you are.

What made me volunteer? I thought I could do a good job. And be sarcastic about it, because having the hat is kind of an affirmation that I'm in things deep enough to see how it is, and frankly from the other side it was hard to say anything without having to make inferences about what mods do. Not that this stopped me, but still, it meant there were incomplete pieces.

Nothing stops me.

VertigoArt: Do you consider yourself active in the deviantART community? Why? If yes, how? If no, why not?

neurotype-on-discord: I'd hope so! Greetings from your resident forum/chat whore. I've been busy this past month doing SEKRIT MYSTERY THINGS but hopefully I can get back to reading and critiquing all the stuff soon.

Also drawing more cartoons. I want to draw more stupid cartoons.

Journal skinners, I haven't forgotten you either!

VertigoArt: What is your opinion of DailyLitDeviations? Do you believe there is something more we could be doing and if so what? What would you do different if you were in charge?

neurotype-on-discord: I think the idea is awesome and the impact's been fantastic. It's the community taking stuff into their own hands--which, by the way, is what you're supposed to be doing anyway. (Seriously, go check out CRLiterature and note the amount of opportunities for you to lead the way. That's intentional.) So anyway, it encourages people to get excited about something that doesn't have site programming behind it, and it gets people to take their writing seriously.

The one thing I'd do differently is limit how often people get featured. I'd love to see more new names--wait, what do you mean that's the same issue as DDs :P (Guys, finding new writers is hard. No matter what you're doing it for.)

VertigoArt: I believe I have taken up enough of your time, but I have a final question. It is a hard one so I'm sorry. What is the story behind your nickname?

neurotype-on-discord: No worries, Hulu has a ton of ads. (Glee season 4 episode 3, in case you were wondering. Okay, I also answered questions whenever the songs got boring.)

It's my wordpress handle. In reality, I have never once had a nickname stick to me. (If you really want to hear my real name, you can note me or ask me in chat. I don't like using it. I am living proof that parents pick names with absolutely no prescience at all.)
